Pigeons in the Park

Choreography by Snowflake Calvert

Commissioned and performed by Ballet North Texas.

March 2022

Based on a true story of Snowflake’s own experience, Pigeons in the Park was inspired by San Francisco pigeons and California towhees fighting for the little resources on a small patch of grass in Union Square. After watching these birds battle each other for fifteen minutes, they all instantly became friends as a lovely man fed them bread crumbs. This work combines satire with contemporary ballet and a surprise twist ending. The original seven minute duet of Pigeons in the Park was commissioned by Redding City Ballet for the Bravura Dance Festival in 2009. The Artist Director of Ballet North Texas, Nicolina Lawson, was cast in that original duet. It was with great pleasure to work with all of the dancers at Ballet North Texas on this larger version of this piece.
